BIG SUR, California — A northern section of Highway 1 will reopen Thursday morning. Caltrans officials said the road will be open again at 6 a.m. on September 3. Emergency crews will continue working along the Big Sur coast.
The highway will reopen from just south of the Little Sur River to just south of the Big Sur Post Office. However, another closure farther south will continue because of ongoing fire response operations.

The entire highway is not open yet. The southern section will remain closed because of the Plaskett Fire response.
